Hello Twenty Twenty-Three, It's Me

Welcome to Ethical & Sustainable Fashion.

Over the past year and a bit, I have had the absolute privilege of creating a business around a personal passion. I am proud to run a business I can confidently execute in alignment with my environmental & ethical values.

I’m Mez, founder & designer of Mezdusa Label.

I officially launched Mezdusa in October 2021, after nearly a decade of dreaming, but when I think about it now, I began much earlier than that.

I started sewing on my mum’s old Elna sewing machine when I was 10 years old. I can unapologetically admit it was a few years after that until I could actually wear what I made. But I did, I wrapped my head around how a pattern worked, what fabric you could (and couldn’t use) for dresses, I experimented with designs and practised my sewing skills. I can vividly remember at this age knowing that I wanted to be a fashion designer. I continued to sew and along the way I found another love of screen printing and stencilling and started to incorporate the two. I made t-shirts for friends and proudly worn me-made outfits.

As I become an ‘adult’ and could chose anything I wanted to do with my life, I kept coming back to fashion as the goal. When the Pandemic came around, I decided to go for it. However, I was faced with a moral conundrum; How can I possibility pursue my passion that is in an industry that was one of the biggest contributors to carbon emissions and the impacts facing our environment.

This is how Mezdusa was born. A solution to the fast fashion, mass produced, poor quality, landfill waste problem that is the fashion world we live in.

Mezdusa’s ethos stand strong in the concept of circular design; all garments are mindfully designed to ensure they have an environmental lifecycle; 100% natural fabrics, eco dyes, natural notions & accessories. This means that when the garments come to their end of life, they can be compostable. Minimising the environmental footprint by not leaving behind harmful chemicals, micro plastics, metal accessories or simply elements not breaking down at all.

Ethical manufacturing is synonymous with our environmental ethos we belief high standard of production ensures not only a better-quality garment but less chemical production, safe work environments, minimising waste, and beneficially slower & mindful industry.

Currently all our linen pieces are crafted (designed, cut, sewn & presented) by me in my little coastal workshop here in Australia. I stand by my high quality & longevity garments.

Our t-shirts are manufactured overseas, and we spent the better part of a year researching and finding a supplier we are confident in their ethics & environmental standards. The t- shirts are made under the Fair Wear certification and GOTS certification.

I hope by sharing our story and the values that make us tick, I can highlight that we aren’t out here just to be another ‘clothing brand’ or another big business or keeping up with the forever changing latest trends. I’m here to personify the passion I’ve had since I was 10 and hopefully along the way, we, can create something much bigger – a movement, an environmental epiphany; to be good to the earth.

A goal for 2023 is to share more of our personality, values & behind the scenes with you to promote a standard of transparency which should be encouraged in the fashion industry.

Thank you for following along this odyssey with me, I look forward to sharing with you all the things Mezdusa can become.

Love Mez x
